The Doors Of Perception

The Doors Of Perception

William Blake’s observation points toward a fundamental truth of human development. The infinite is ever-present, yet our ability to perceive it depends upon the adaptability and refinement of the nervous system. ⁣

Every experience leaves an impression. The accumulated stresses of life reduce our capacity to perceive the finer values of existence and narrow our awareness to a more limited range of experience.⁣

Through the regular practice of Vedic Meditation, the body gains profound rest and begins releasing these accumulated stresses. As the nervous system becomes more orderly and coherent, perception naturally expands. Greater awareness of the subtler layers of thought, feeling, intuition, and intelligence emerges. What Blake called the cleansing of the doors of perception is a natural consequence of increasing consciousness.⁣

The infinite does not arrive from elsewhere. It is the underlying field of Being, always present, always available. As stress dissolves and consciousness grows, our awareness becomes increasingly capable of knowing that field directly and living in accord with it. Life is then experienced with greater fullness, greater intelligence, and a deeper sense of connectedness with the unbounded source from which all experience arises.⁣

The infinite is not hidden from us, rather it is hidden by the limitations of a stressed nervous system. As those limitations are removed, reality reveals more of itself.⁣
