Deep Rest & The Travelling Body

Deep Rest & The Travelling Body

Over the last few weeks I’ve moved through four time zones and three major altitude shifts.⁣

Experiences like this always reinforce how essential Vedic Meditation has become for adaptation because travel places enormous demands on the nervous system through disrupted sleep, constant stimulation, environmental change and the physiological load of altitude transitions… not to mention jet lag as well! ⁣

One of the most valuable aspects of the practice is the depth of rest the body experiences during meditation, with research showing states of restfulness significantly deeper than ordinary relaxation and around two to five times deeper than sleep.⁣

Despite the constant movement, I’ve noticed sustained clarity, productive energy, a much stronger social battery and far less cumulative fatigue and jet lag than would normally be expected from this level of travel. This continues to remind me that the body adapts remarkably well when the nervous system is given daily and consistent opportunities for deep recovery and restoration.⁣
